"At the duke’s oak we meet!!"

Just yesterday, some of the set committee met up and began cutting out leaves. For those of you who don't know, the set is made up of a large tree, dubbed the "Duke's Oak," which we will use to portray most of our scenes. There will also be a set of raised platforms that will allow for some dynamic acting up and down the platforms.

But all the same, for us to give the idea of a tree, we had to make a lot of branches, vines and leaves to hang down from the top of the theater. Six shakespeareans and three mothers got together and began producing bags upon bags of leaves cut out of paper and vines twisted from streamers. It was a good two hours worth of work!! It will all be quite worth it; the "Duke's Oak" is going to look incredible!!

All the same, during the week of Shakespeare Camp, both casts will be sharing the stage, and in extension, will be sharing the set. Be that as it may, it is highly encouraged for both casts to think up ways to enhance the stage for each of their scenes.

Although our "Duke's Oak" may be incredibly impressive by itself, it is but one tree in what is supposed to be a forest during some of the scenes!! Maybe the fairies could bring on and off some flowers or bushes to suggest the rest of the forest. Or what about during the first couple of scenes, where Theseus has his court? Maybe we could we have Philo or Strate bring in some flags to suggest the court. Give it some thought and leave a comment with what you come up with!! If you have any ideas for the set, we'd love to hear them!! Thanks!!
